HB 605
House Speaker Clay Schexnayder sponsored HB 605, which would regulate CBD products. According to WAFB, the bill “would add restrictions to both serving and packaging sizes.” Additionally, regulators would be better equipped to keep an eye on retailers and CBD products in Louisiana. However, the THC limit of 8mg per dose would remain unchanged. Rep. Schexnayder said the bill would ensure safer products for customers. 
SB 219
In the Senate, SB 219 differs since it focuses more on overhauling the industry. Senate Bill 219 sponsor Senator Stewart Cathey, wants to lower the THC limit to 2mg or less per dose. Businesses that violate the new laws would face severe repercussions.
Divided Reactions
Since SB 219 sounds punitive, some business owners worry about how the new bill will affect them. Some have voiced concern that they may have to shut down due to the rigorous new standards. On the other hand, owners do not believe HB 605 would negatively impact them and allow them to stay open. However, there’s still much disagreement over the appropriate potency of CBD products, which has lawmakers and business owners divided.
