We have all seen it before where there is an ad featuring a celebrity endorsing a CBD product. Just like anybody else, plenty of famous people proudly use CBD. Sometimes, the person seen supporting a CBD product doesn’t even know about it because the celebrity never gave the company permission to use their name or likeness. When this happens, companies can face significant legal consequences, like in the case of Clint Eastwood.
Clint Fights Back
As one of the most recognizable names and faces in Hollywood, it’s no wonder that companies want to be associated with Clint Eastwood. In some cases, these businesses don’t even bother to ask and use Clint’s image anyway. Clint doesn’t take it lightly and fights back and has filed two lawsuits against these companies.
In October 2021, Clint won a $6.1 million suit against a Lithuanian company that posted a fake interview that made it appear that he endorsed their products. Since the company failed to respond to the suit, Clint won the judgment without resistance.
In the second suit, a judge awarded Clint $2 million after a CBD manufacturer used Clint’s name to divert traffic to a site selling its products. Clint didn’t appreciate the company exploiting his celebrity to sell products he never endorsed. The judge agreed that Clint had “proved his trademark infringement claims,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Protecting His Image
Fun Fact: Clint has only ever in his 65+-year career agreed to an endorsement deal. And that was for a 2012 Super Bowl commercial where he talked about the U.S. recovering from the 2008 recession. Clint has repeatedly let it be known that he doesn’t want to be associated with any company or product that doesn’t fit his brand.
