While many nations have lax CBD regulations, France is on the other end of the spectrum. The European country has used a heavy hand regarding CBD. A recent parliamentary report has described the handling of CBD as “practically grotesque.” The report states that there should be changes in the French market. Current Regulations
Under current French law, CBD product developers cannot use certain parts from cannabis growers. It is against the law to make CBD items from the leaves of the flowers where CBD naturally occurs. Therefore, manufacturers typically use hemp plants for building materials and textiles. Due to these strict laws, the CBD market in France has been stifled for several years. Despite this, there are still around 400 CBD merchants in France.
Call for Changes
For those unhappy with the current state of CBD, they are calling for some drastic changes. They want legislators to step up to get this accomplished. Not only would the number of products and vendors increase, but it would prevent legitimate stores from being targeted. Over the past few months, many of these shops have had to head to court. These stores have had to fight charges that they are breaking the law.
What’s Being Done?
Just last year, the European Court of Justice ruled that France’s ban on certain CBD products is illegal. The court found no evidence to justify the ban. The parliamentary report also noted that the CBD market needs to be revised to ensure that all products are completely safe for consumers. The authors of the report recommend that all parts of the hemp plant be used to produce high-quality CBD products.
