Do you do plenty of research before you purchase your CBD, or do you like to take a leap of faith? Have you ever wondered if your CBD product is exactly what manufacturers claim it to be? If you answered “yes” to one or both of these questions, good for you for being skeptical. You can never be too careful when it comes to CBD.
However, recent findings show that you need to do your due diligence because not all CBD products are what they claim to be. The FDA recently tested a wide variety of products and found that not all of them have the amount of CBD they claim to, and some have some stuff that shouldn’t even be in there. Let’s take a look at the findings.
The Ugly Truth
According to Hemp Industry Daily, the FDA tested 102 products and found that many don’t have nearly as much CBD as what’s labeled, which is problematic for consumers. Of the tested products, 18 had less than 80% labeled CBD, while 38% had more CBD than they should. Additionally, the agency found some products had THC when they were supposed to be THC-free.
Calls for Stricter Oversight
Although the numbers might sound alarming, this isn’t all bad news because this has strengthened the calls for more oversight of the industry. As reputable hemp producers already adhere to the strictest standards, this data reinforces the need for all producers to follow suit. This is a step towards a better-regulated market, where all products are accurately labeled, THC levels are within the standard, and there are no heavy metals or contaminants.
